School Readiness

Helping kids start kindergarten more prepared. By age 5, a typical middle-class child recognizes 22 letters of the alphabet, compared to 9 for a child from a low-income family.

In Regina, almost 50% of children arrive to school already behind, experiencing some or significant difficulties completing tasks.

Kinder Readiness Kits: Empowering Every Child’s Journey to School Success

We believe every child deserves a strong start in their educational journey. That’s why we’re proud to offer our Kinder Readiness Kits, designed to equip young learners with the essential tools they need to thrive in kindergarten and beyond.

What’s Inside the Kinder Readiness Kits?

Our thoughtfully curated kits are packed with age-appropriate resources that foster early learning and development. Each kit includes:

  • Interactive Learning Materials: Fun and engaging books, educational games, and activity sheets that enhance early literacy, numeracy, and cognitive skills.
  • School Supplies: Essential items like crayons, pencils, and notebooks to get children excited about their school activities.
  • Parent Engagement Resources: Guides and tips for parents to support their child’s learning journey at home, including strategies for building literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Healthy Snacks and Nutrition Tips: Healthy snacks and advice on nutrition to support children’s growth and well-being.

Why Kinder Readiness Kits Matter

Early education is the cornerstone of future success. By providing Kinder Readiness Kits, we aim to:

  • Bridge the Gap: Help children from all backgrounds start kindergarten with the skills and confidence they need to succeed.
  • Support Parents: Offer valuable resources and guidance to parents, empowering them to actively engage in their child’s early learning.
  • Promote Equal Opportunities: Ensure that every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the tools they need to reach their full potential.

Get Involved

You can help make a difference! Support United Way’s Regina Kinder Readiness Kits initiative by:

  • Donating: Your contribution ensures that more children receive these essential kits.
  • Volunteering: Join our efforts to assemble and distribute the kits to families in need.
  • Spreading the Word: Share our mission with your network to raise awareness and encourage others to get involved.

The kits will also provide important resources for parents such as a kindergarten readiness checklist and guide to help prepare them to support their little one with the transition into school. Information about the importance of attendance in the early years will also be distributed.

At holiday time, I send these cards to my son's teachers at his school. They make a great gift and the money helps our community.

Being able to dedicate my United Way donation to the passing of my dear friend made the world to me. The family loved the idea.

My friend asked that we make a donation to charity instead of getting her a gift for her birthday. Sending a card with United Way made it easy.
